Every new year people make a whole bunch of resolutions or promises to themselves that they will achieve certain goals in the year ahead. The media is full of tips on how to do this and what your resolutions should be. However when the end of the year comes we often find ourselves despondent, knowing that we have failed in reaching our goals and keeping our promises. This happens year after year and eventually our resolutions become meaningless and empty. Something that struck me this new year was how much we anticipate the new year and all it holds for us. We get excited and build hope that it will be different and better when compared to the previous year only to be disappointed by how it doesn't live up to our expectations. |
The same thing happens in our walk with God.
We desire to draw closer to Him and to feel more connected and we promise ourselves and God that we will be more faithful and strive to grow, yet our actions do not reflect our desires. The only way that this will happen in our lives is if we step up our prayer life and open the scriptures. It is forever a challenge not to let this part of your life slip when you are busy working in ministry. you get caught up in the acts of service your role requires yet we are not allowing the energy and incentive to do the work, flow through from the one who called us to it in the first place. |
