RESOLUTIONS

5/1/2016

Every new year people make a whole bunch of resolutions or promises to themselves that they will achieve certain goals in the year ahead.
The media is full of tips on how to do this and what your resolutions should be.  However when the end of the year comes we often find ourselves despondent, knowing that we have failed in reaching our goals and keeping our promises.
This happens year after year and eventually our resolutions become meaningless and empty.
Something that struck me this new year was how much we anticipate the new year and all it holds for us. We get excited and build hope that it will be different and better when compared to the previous year only to be disappointed by how it doesn't live up to our expectations.
Picture
As the new year rolled in I realised that the reason our hopes are often crushed in this department is that we so often expect things to be different with the onset of the new calendar year but the patterns and habits in our life remain unchanged.

The same thing happens in our walk with God.
Picture
We desire to draw closer to Him and to feel more connected and we promise ourselves and God that we will be more faithful and strive to grow, yet our actions do not reflect our desires.
The only way that this will happen in our lives is if we step up our prayer life and open the scriptures.
It is forever a challenge not to let this part of your life slip when you are busy working in ministry. you get caught up in the acts of service your role requires yet we are not allowing the energy and incentive to do the work, flow through from the one who called us to it in the first place.
Don't allow this year to be another year where you make half hearted promises and resolutions. Look inside yourself and make the changes that need to be made and take hold of 2016 as a time to truly grow and change!

Wonderful Works

7/12/2015

It has been a busy start to the summer season for Blue Lagoon and is bound to get busier again in the new year. But before the rush of the summer season catches up to us we thought we would take a moment to reflect on the year we have had.

We want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has donated time, money, skills and committed to praying for Blue Lagoon this year. Without you we would not have been able to accomplish so much!

There has been an incredible amount of work done to the grounds and buildings this year and that can not happen without the generosity of the people and businesses who look out for us along the way.

Andrew Walter Constructions has been incredible this year, with the donations of recycled materials from job sites, loaning us machinery and workers to get some of the bigger tasks completed and, the provision of truckloads of mulch to tidy up our gardens. Because of their generosity, we have been able to construct our initiatives course completely from recycled materials,  a campfire area has been created for the campers to enjoy and we have been able to do some substantial landscaping to the site.

A number of projects were undertaken this year including:
  • Renovations to the dining room,
  • Construction of wooden steps in the front bank,
  • Installing a veranda on the front of rooms 1 & 2,
  • Re-cladding  of house 3
  • Asbestos removal from house 3 , then renovating, plastering, tiling and painting in preparation for our new chef Michael and  his family Yvonne, Chloe, Brock and Tyler
  • Constructing a new retaining wall and pathway outside the foyer of the main building.
  • Landscaping around and beneath the giant slide
  • Renovations to the bathrooms in Red Ochre dorms
  • Installation and landscaping of a fire pit area
  • State of the art Team Building and Initiatives Course
  • Landscaping of the bank in front of the games room
  • Massive amount of trees and shrubs planted
  • New steps and pathway for the Giant Slide
  • Marine Rope fences for the Giant Slide and Games Room bank

Many local businesses have been a wonderful support in supplying materials & labor to aid us in our various projects this year.
  • Andrew Walter Construction
  • Holt's Mitre 10 Sorell
  • JDM Contracting
  • Hazel Bros
  • Wild Seed Tasmania
  • Mobile Mission Maintenance
  • Netco Pumps
  • Carpet Choice Hobart
  • AEGIS Asbestos

We have had a number of skilled laborers donate time this year to come and assist us in the completion of projects and we thank you for the time and effort you have put in to help us get those done.
Our crew of volunteers at our working bee helped us to get the site looking fantastic and we are so grateful to them for their support time and effort.

It has been an incredible year and we praise God for his provision, guiding and blessings on the ministry at Blue Lagoon.

We wish you all a happy and safe Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, and we look forward to sharing with in 2016!

Take time to wonder...

We have all come to know Christmas as the silly season and it is known by that name for a reason!! Blue Lagoon is not exempt from this busy time of year and as the weather warms up the number of camps we have visiting with us increases.

We have been having a great time with the schools who have been coming to stay and our initiatives course has proven a hit with both teachers and campers alike.
Camp is so often such a busy time as we rush from one activity to another, however, some of the most special moments of camp are not in the rushing from one destination to another but in the times that we stop for a moment.

When we slow down and take time for each other it is so special to see the way the campers and their teachers are able to bond and it blesses me, to witness this happening.
It is precious to see kids play with each other and share their experiences away from the distraction of social media and technology. They are able to find wonder in so many things,  like the simplicity of an anemone closing with the poke of a finger and in the patterns and swirls of a regular seashell.
We seem to  suppress this ability as we grow older but that wonder is still within us if we will take the time to let it out.

I encourage you to take a step back this 'silly season'and to find the wonder in the creation around you.
God has created an incredible world for us to live in and as the holiday season draws nearer don't forget to take to time to enjoy all that he has given you!
Blessings
Nic
“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?

In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind."

Men's Ministry weekend

From the 12th to the 14th of June Blue Lagoon hosted a men's ministry weekend.
We had fabulous weather and it was a wonderful weekend of sharing learning, adventure and fellowship.

The men who attended enjoyed hearty meals, challenging sessions and had fun spending time challenging each other in a range of activities.
Our speaker for the weekend, Michael Wilson traveled across from Melbourne with his wife and son to share with the men.

The sessions for the weekend were based around the ways that God instructs men to be strong, leaders, protectors and also be tender and show emotion.

Everyone took away some challenges and encouragements from the weekend and we look forward to running more weekends and men's events in the future.
Thanks to all who attended.
